EPISODE 4
David Willock couldn’t tell where the room ended anymore.
Walls… ceiling… floor…
Everything felt like it was fading into the same impossible surface.
The book was still open.
But now it didn’t feel like paper.
It felt like an interface.
Alive.
Watching.
“READER IDENTIFIED.”
The words pulsed again.
Not ink—breathing text.
David stepped back, but his body didn’t fully obey. Each movement felt delayed, like reality was processing him slowly.
Then the voice returned.
Calm.
Certain.
“You should not resist.”
David’s eyes snapped to the book.
“No…” he whispered, though he wasn’t sure he said it out loud.
The pages turned on their own.
One by one.
Faster.
Until they stopped on a page that wasn’t there before.
Blank.
Then slowly—
a shape appeared.
Not written.
Forming.
Like the page was remembering something that had not happened yet.
David felt it in his mind before he saw it clearly.
A structure.
Endless corridors.
No geometry that made sense.
And something moving inside it.
Not approaching.
Not leaving.
Just aware.
Suddenly, pain struck his head—sharp, deep, as if something was pressing against his thoughts from the inside.
He dropped to his knees.
The voice spoke again.
“You were never the first.”
The room flickered.
For a split second, David saw other versions of himself.
Sitting.
Reading.
Breaking.
Ending.
All in different rooms.
All with the same book.
Then it was gone.
Only one reality remained.
But it no longer felt like his.
The book closed itself.
Slowly.
Gently.
Like a decision had been made.
The final line appeared on the cover:
“TRANSFER COMPLETE.”
David tried to scream—but the sound didn’t reach outside his mind.
Because there was no outside anymore.
Only continuation.
And somewhere far beyond thought… something new had learned his name.
