EPISODE 20
THE ROOM OF ECHOES
Darkness.
Then…
A single breath.
Elias opened his eyes.
The white door stood behind him.
It was now closed.
He turned slowly.
The endless gray world had disappeared.
He stood inside a quiet circular room.
Its walls were covered with smooth white stone.
There were no windows.
No visible lights.
Yet the room was softly illuminated.
In the center rested a small wooden table.
On it lay an ordinary notebook.
Nothing else.
Elias approached carefully.
The notebook looked old but well preserved.
There was no title.
Only one sentence written across the cover.
EVERY ANSWER BECOMES A NEW QUESTION.
He opened it.
The first page was blank.
The second page contained a single line.
Write only what you know is true.
Elias frowned.
“I don’t have a pen.”
As soon as he spoke…
A simple pencil appeared beside the notebook.
He looked around.
No one was there.
No footsteps.
No movement.
Only silence.
After a long pause, he picked up the pencil.
He hesitated.
Then he wrote one word.
Elias.
The letters shimmered.
Slowly…
The word disappeared.
New words appeared beneath it.
A name is not the first truth.
The room remained perfectly still.
Elias turned another page.
Blank.
He thought carefully.
Then he wrote again.
I remember the laboratory.
The writing remained for only a moment.
Then faded.
Another message appeared.
Memory is not always certainty.
A quiet voice echoed through the room.
Not loud.
Not frightening.
Simply calm.
“What cannot change?”
Elias looked around.
“Who’s there?”
No answer.
Only silence.
He lowered the pencil.
After thinking for several moments, he wrote again.
Every choice creates a consequence.
This time…
The words did not disappear.
Instead, the notebook gave off a soft silver glow.
A gentle chime echoed across the room.
For the first time…
A door appeared on the opposite wall.
It had not been there before.
Unlike the white door, this one was made of dark wood.
Above it were carved three simple words.
THE ROOM REMEMBERS HONESTY.
Elias closed the notebook.
The calm voice returned.
“What do you fear losing?”
He answered without writing.
“My memories.”
The room remained silent.
Then the notebook opened by itself.
New words slowly formed across the page.
Then protect the choices that created them.
Elias read the sentence twice.
Something about it felt important.
Not because it explained everything.
But because it explained enough.
A soft knock echoed from behind the wooden door.
One knock.
Nothing more.
Elias walked toward it.
The closer he came…
The warmer the room became.
He stopped just in front of the door.
Unlike the first one…
This door had a handle.
He reached toward it.
Before his hand touched the brass handle…
The older Elias appeared beside him.
Calm as always.
“You came farther than I expected.”
Elias looked at him.
“What’s behind this door?”
The older Elias smiled faintly.
“I’ve never opened it.”
“You’ve been here all this time.”
“Yes.”
“Then why not?”
“Because every door asks a different question.”
Elias glanced back at the notebook.
“This one asked about truth.”
The older Elias nodded.
“The next one asks about trust.”
Silence settled between them.
Elias looked at the wooden door once more.
“Can I trust what’s behind it?”
The older Elias answered carefully.
“That depends.”
“On what?”
“Whether you can trust yourself.”
The words lingered in the quiet room.
Without warning…
The notebook turned its final page.
A map slowly appeared.
It showed a series of connected rooms.
Most of them were empty.
Only one was marked with a small silver circle.
Beneath the map, new words appeared.
THE FIRST DOOR WAS NEVER THE DESTINATION.
The wooden door gave a soft click.
The handle turned on its own.
A narrow beam of warm light shone through the opening.
From somewhere beyond…
Footsteps echoed.
Slow.
Steady.
Approaching.
Elias held his breath.
The older Elias looked toward the light.
For the first time…
His calm expression changed.
Almost as if he recognized whoever was coming.
Then…
A familiar voice spoke from beyond the doorway.
“Only one of us can continue.”
The footsteps stopped.
The room fell silent.
TO BE CONTINUED…
