THE OTHER ELIAS
EPISODE 19
THE FIRST DOOR
Darkness.
Complete silence.
No emergency lights.
No alarms.
Nothing.
Elias opened his eyes.
The archive was gone.
The scientist was gone.
The child.
The older Elias.
Even the endless hallway had disappeared.
Only one thing remained.
The white door.
Standing alone beneath a gray sky that had no sun.
No clouds.
No horizon.
Just endless emptiness.
Elias took one cautious step forward.
The floor beneath him felt solid.
Yet every footstep echoed as though he were walking inside an enormous empty building.
He stopped a few feet from the door.
There was no handle.
No lock.
Only a small sentence carved into the smooth white surface.
EVERY DOOR OPENS TWICE.
Elias reached toward the words.
Before his fingers touched them, a familiar voice spoke behind him.
“Don’t.”
He turned.
The older Elias stood several meters away.
Calm.
Tired.
Watching.
“You finally found it,” the older Elias said.
“What is this place?”
“It isn’t a place.”
Elias frowned.
“Then what is it?”
“A memory.”
The silence returned.
Not uncomfortable.
Just endless.
Elias looked around.
“But whose memory?”
The older Elias answered without hesitation.
“Ours.”
A soft breeze crossed the empty space.
For a brief moment, faint images appeared in the air.
Scientists working together.
Children laughing in a quiet neighborhood.
Ordinary mornings.
Simple conversations.
Moments filled with hope.
Then they vanished.
“They’re beautiful,” Elias whispered.
“They were.”
The older Elias looked toward the white door.
“Every discovery begins with hope.”
“And ends?”
“That depends on the choices we make.”
Without warning, the empty sky shimmered.
Tiny lights appeared overhead like distant stars.
Each light flickered for only a second before fading away.
“What are those?”
“Lives.”
“Lives?”
“Different possibilities.”
Elias watched another light disappear.
“They’re fading.”
“They always do.”
Far away, a low vibration returned.
Not threatening.
Steady.
Patient.
The older Elias closed his eyes.
“It has found us again.”
Elias listened carefully.
The vibration almost sounded like breathing.
Slow.
Calm.
Ancient.
“Can it enter this place?”
“No.”
“Then why are you worried?”
“Because we can leave.”
For the first time, uncertainty appeared on Elias’s face.
The older Elias stepped closer.
“It never forces anyone through the door.”
“It waits.”
“It watches.”
“And sometimes…”
“It is invited.”
Elias stared at the white door again.
“The first gateway…”
“It wasn’t opened by a machine.”
“No.”
“It was opened by curiosity.”
Silence settled once more.
The words felt heavier than anything Elias had heard before.
Behind them, the empty space began to ripple like water.
The scientist suddenly appeared.
Only for a moment.
His voice echoed across the silence.
“Elias!”
The image flickered.
“We’re losing the connection!”
Then he disappeared.
The older Elias looked upward.
“They’re trying to bring you back.”
“What happens if they fail?”
“You remain here.”
“And you?”
“I’ve been here longer than I can measure.”
Another ripple crossed the empty world.
This time, the child appeared.
His voice was distant.
“Don’t forget what you see.”
The vision vanished.
The white door gave a quiet click.
Not opening.
Just moving slightly.
A narrow line of warm light appeared beneath it.
For the first time, the empty world felt alive.
Elias stepped closer.
The older Elias did not stop him.
Instead, he spoke softly.
“Whatever is behind that door…”
“…doesn’t want your fear.”
“It wants your understanding.”
The light beneath the door slowly became brighter.
Then another sentence appeared beneath the first.
THE SECOND OPENING IS ALWAYS A CHOICE.
Elias took a slow breath.
He raised his hand.
The light grew brighter.
The vibration stopped.
Everything became perfectly still.
Just before his fingers touched the white door…
A gentle voice echoed from the other side.
Elias…
It sounded exactly like his own.
The door moved by itself.
Only one inch.
Then…
Everything went black.
TO BE CONTINUED…
