EPISODE 5
Jack didn’t sleep.
Every time he closed his eyes he heard the voice again.
You were never supposed to resist.
It wasn’t inside his head anymore.
It felt bigger than that.
Like something standing just outside reality itself.
Watching. Waiting.
The knife still lay on the floor across the room.
Jack hadn’t touched it since that night.
But somehow every morning
it appeared closer.
An inch. A foot.
Sometimes beside the bed.
As if something wanted him to pick it up again.
He never did.
Three days passed.
No whispers.
No visions.
No blood. And somehow that silence felt worse.
Because evil was patient.
On the fourth night
someone knocked on his apartment door.
Three slow knocks.
Jack froze.
2:13 AM.
Nobody visited him anymore.
Not after the stories.
Not after the rumors.
Another knock.
Precise. Jack moved carefully toward the door.
The hallway outside was dark. Empty.
Except for one thing.
A box. Small. Black. Waiting.
His stomach tightened.
Every instinct told him not to touch it.
But he already knew he would.
Jack carried the box inside.
No label. No tape.
Just a symbol burned into the surface.
A circle.. with lines twisting through it like veins.
The moment he saw it pain exploded behind his eyes.
A memory.
Not his own.
Dark streets. Rain.
A man breathing heavily.
Blood running between his fingers.
Then a voice whispering:
Find the others.
Jack dropped the box instantly.
Breathing hard.
What are you?
Silence. Slowly the lid opened by itself.
Inside was an old photograph.
Five people stood together in the picture.
Different ages.
Different decades.
Different places.
But they all had the same expression.
Fear. Jack stared at the faces carefully.
Then his blood turned cold.
One of them looked exactly like him.
Not similar.
Exact. Same eyes. Same scar near the chin. Same face.
On the back of the photograph someone had written a sentence in faded ink.
The vessels must never unite.
Jack stepped backward.
His heartbeat pounded louder and louder.
This wasn’t possession.
This was something older.
Something organized.
The lights inside the apartment flickered once.
Twice. Then every bulb shattered at the same time.
Darkness swallowed the room.
Jack heard breathing again.
Not one person.
Multiple. Around him.
Close. Too close.
Then came the whisper.
Not from the walls.
Not from the shadows.
From directly behind him.
You found the photograph.
Jack spun around
but saw nothing.
Only darkness.
Then another voice spoke.
Female this time.
Cold. Calm. You should have destroyed it.
Jack backed away slowly.
Who are you?
A long silence followed.
Then. We are the ones who survived.
The room suddenly felt colder.
Jack’s hands trembled.
Because deep down he already knew what that meant.
The others were real.
And if they had survived…
Something else had survived with them.
Far below the apartment hidden beneath the city something opened its eyes.
And for the first time in years it smiled.
