Jack Saw a Figure Standing Inside the Tunnel

EPISODE 7

Darkness swallowed the station completely.

For several seconds, no one moved.

No one spoke.

Jack could hear only the faint sound of breathing around him and somewhere deeper below, a slow metallic vibration moving through the tunnels.

Then a flashlight flickered on.

One of the survivors stood near the wall, his hands shaking slightly.

We don’t have much time, the woman whispered.

Jack turned toward her.

What is this place?

The woman hesitated before answering.

This station was built over something that should never have been disturbed.

Another low vibration passed beneath their feet.

Dust drifted silently from the ceiling.

Jack aimed his flashlight toward the tunnel ahead.

The shadow he had seen earlier was gone.

But the feeling remained.

Something enormous was still down there.

Watching.

The survivors quickly gathered their equipment small radios, bags, old maps covered in strange markings.

Jack noticed the symbols matched the patterns on the platform floor.

Circles connected by thin lines.

Almost like a network.

What do they mean? he asked.

The woman looked at the markings carefully.

We think they’re paths.

Paths to what?

She did not answer immediately.

Then she said quietly:

“To the places where it spreads.”

A sudden sound echoed from deep inside the tunnel.

Not footsteps.

Something heavier.

Slow.

Controlled.

The survivors immediately became tense.

One of them whispered:

It’s closer now. Jack felt the cold air around him grow denser.

Almost electric.

Then his flashlight briefly illuminated something near the tracks.

A figure standing completely still.

Tall.

Motionless.

Its face hidden in darkness.

Jack stepped forward instinctively.

The figure did not move.

But the lights in the station flickered again.

For one brief second, the figure appeared much closer than before.

Then the darkness returned.

Jack’s heartbeat quickened.

“What is that?” he asked.

The woman’s expression changed instantly.

Not fear.

Recognition.

We call them vessels, she said quietly.

They’re empty until something chooses to enter.

Another vibration shook the station.

Stronger this time.

A deep sound rose from beneath the ground like distant machinery slowly waking after years of silence.

Then every radio in the station activated at once.

Static filled the air.

And through the noise, a voice emerged.

Calm.

Distorted.

Every survivor froze as the voice repeated the same sentence again and again:

THE GATE IS OPEN.

Jack looked toward the dark tunnel ahead.

And somewhere far below the city…

Something began moving upward.

EPISODE 8 CONTINUES.
