Elizabeth Heard Footsteps Upstairs

EPISODE 8

Elizabeth could not stop staring at the mirror.

The crack across the glass had grown wider.

Thin lines now stretched through the reflection like veins beneath frozen ice.

Yet the figure inside remained perfectly calm.

Still smiling.

Still watching.

The rain outside intensified, tapping harder against the windows of the old house.

For a moment, Elizabeth considered leaving the hallway completely.

But something deep inside her resisted the idea.

It felt wrong to turn her back on the mirror now.

As though the moment she stopped watching it…

Something would change.

Her phone trembled softly in her hand.

Another message appeared.

It does not like being ignored.

Elizabeth’s throat tightened.

Her fingers moved quickly across the screen.

Who are you?

This time, the reply came instantly.

Someone who looked away once before.

A chill moved through her body.

Before she could type again, the lights flickered.

Once.

Twice.

Then everything became still.

The reflection slowly lifted one hand.

Elizabeth did not move.

Yet inside the mirror, the figure’s pale fingers touched the cracked surface gently from the other side.

A soft tapping sound echoed through the hallway.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

Not from the mirror.

From somewhere inside the walls.

Elizabeth stepped backward carefully.

The sound followed.

Slow.

Precise.

Almost patient.

Then every sound inside the house stopped completely.

Even the rain outside seemed distant now.

The silence felt unnatural.

Heavy.

Listening.

Elizabeth’s breathing became shallow.

And that was when she noticed something horrifying.

The reflection inside the mirror was no longer copying the hallway behind her correctly.

The furniture was slightly different.

The shadows deeper.

The doorway to the living room longer than it should have been.

As though the reflection was no longer showing her house at all.

But somewhere else entirely.

The figure inside the glass smiled a little wider.

Then, very slowly…

It raised one finger to its lips.

Requesting silence.

At that exact moment, Elizabeth heard footsteps upstairs.

But she lived alone.
